1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how cookies are used on LetsEnrol.school and the online school enrolment services provided through the platform (the "Website").
LetsEnrol.school provides online enrolment and admissions functionality for schools, allowing parents, guardians and prospective students to access and complete school enrolment applications online.
This Cookie Policy explains the cookies currently used by the Website and how they are used.
This policy should be read together with the Website's Privacy Policy, which explains how personal information submitted through the enrolment service is collected, used, stored and protected.
2. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer, tablet, mobile phone or other device when you visit a website.
Cookies can be used for a number of purposes, including:
- maintaining a user's session;
- enabling website functionality;
- remembering preferences;
- providing language or accessibility functionality; and
- supporting security and technical operation.
Cookies may be first-party cookies, which are set by the website you are visiting, or third-party cookies, which are set by another service operating on the website.
3. Cookies used by LetsEnrol.school
The current configuration of LetsEnrol.school uses a limited number of session cookies.
Our current cookie inventory is:
Cookie Provider Purpose Duration Type
ASP.NET_SessionId LetsEnrol.school Maintains the user's session while using the online enrolment application and enables the ASP.NET application to function correctly Session Strictly necessary
googtrans Google Translate functionality Maintains the language selected by the user when the Google Translate page-translation feature is activated Session Functional / user-requested
Cookie names, purposes and technologies may change if the Website's functionality changes. This Cookie Policy will be reviewed and updated when material changes are made to the cookies or similar technologies used by the Website.
The Irish Data Protection Commission recommends that organisations provide clear and comprehensive information about the technologies they use, their purposes and relevant cookie details.
4. ASP.NET_SessionId cookie
The ASP.NET_SessionId cookie is used by the ASP.NET application that operates the LetsEnrol.school enrolment service.
It allows the Website to maintain a user's application session as they move between pages and interact with the enrolment system.
This cookie:
- is set by the LetsEnrol.school website;
- is a session cookie;
- is required for the normal operation of the enrolment application;
- does not exist for advertising purposes; and
- is not used by LetsEnrol.school for website analytics.
- The cookie expires when the browser session ends.
Because this cookie is necessary for the operation of the online service requested by the user, it is intended to fall within the strictly necessary exemption from the consent requirement under Regulation 5(5) of the Irish ePrivacy Regulations. The Irish Data Protection Commission recognises an exemption for cookies that are strictly necessary to provide an information-society service explicitly requested by the user.
5. Google Translate
LetsEnrol.school provides an optional page-translation facility allowing users to translate the Website into the languages made available through the language selector.
The Website currently supports translation between: English and Irish.
Google Translate functionality is not required for the basic operation of the English-language enrolment service.
When a visitor actively selects a translated language, the Google Translate functionality is activated and a googtrans session cookie may be created.
The googtrans cookie is used to maintain the selected translation language during the current browser session.
The cookie is not used by LetsEnrol.school for:
- advertising;
- behavioural profiling;
- marketing;
- website analytics; or
- targeted advertising.
The translation service is activated as a result of the user's explicit selection of the translation functionality.
Google maintains its own information concerning its technologies and services. Users can consult Google's relevant privacy and cookie information for further information about Google's services.

6. Cookies requiring consent
At the time this Cookie Policy was last reviewed, LetsEnrol.school's enrolment pages were configured so that a fresh visit to the Website initially uses only the ASP.NET_SessionId session cookie.
The googtrans cookie is associated with the optional translation functionality and is created when the user activates that functionality.
LetsEnrol.school does not currently use the enrolment page for:
- advertising cookies;
- behavioural advertising;
- marketing cookies;
- conversion tracking;
- Google Analytics; or
- similar advertising or analytics tracking technologies.
If non-essential cookies or tracking technologies are introduced in the future, LetsEnrol.school will review the applicable Irish ePrivacy requirements and obtain consent where required before using those technologies.
Under Irish law, consent is normally required for the storage of information on, or access to information already stored on, a user's device, subject to the limited exemptions provided by the ePrivacy Regulations.
7. Do I need to accept cookies to use LetsEnrol?
The essential functions of the enrolment service do not depend on accepting advertising or analytics cookies.
The ASP.NET_SessionId cookie is required for the Website's normal operation.
The translation facility is optional. You can continue to use the Website in English without activating the translation service.
If you choose to use the translation facility, the Website may use the googtrans session cookie to maintain your selected language.
8. Managing cookies
You can manage or delete cookies through the settings provided by your web browser.
Most modern browsers allow you to:
- view cookies stored by websites;
- delete individual cookies;
- block cookies;
- block third-party cookies; or
- delete cookies when the browser is closed.
Please note that blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies may prevent the LetsEnrol enrolment application from functioning correctly.
For example, blocking the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie may interfere with maintaining your enrolment session.
9. Cookies and personal data
A cookie does not necessarily contain personal information.
However, information associated with cookies or similar technologies can, in some circumstances, constitute personal data.
Where personal data is processed in connection with cookies or similar technologies, applicable data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, will also apply.
The Irish Data Protection Commission explains that ePrivacy requirements concerning cookies apply separately from GDPR requirements, and that both regimes can apply where cookie-related processing involves personal data.
10. Student and parent information
LetsEnrol.school is an online school enrolment platform.
The cookies described in this Cookie Policy are primarily concerned with the technical operation of the Website and the optional page-translation functionality.
They are separate from the information that a parent, guardian or student may enter into an enrolment application.
Information submitted through an enrolment application may include personal information relating to students, parents and guardians.
Information submitted through the enrolment service is handled in accordance with the applicable Privacy Policy and the data-protection arrangements applicable to the relevant school and the LetsEnrol.school service.
11. Third-party services
The Website uses Google Translate to provide optional page-translation functionality.
When this functionality is activated, the Website interacts with Google's translation service.
Third-party services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. LetsEnrol.school does not control the privacy practices of third-party websites or services outside the LetsEnrol.school platform.
Information about Google's use of cookies and similar technologies is available from Google:

14. Applicable law
This Cookie Policy has been prepared with reference to the requirements applicable to websites operating in Ireland, including:
the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 336/2011);
the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR); and

The Irish Data Protection Commission's current cookie guidance states that consent is normally required for cookies and similar technologies, subject to limited exemptions including technologies that are strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user.
The legislation itself provides the relevant exemption for technical storage or access that is strictly necessary to provide an information-society service explicitly requested by the user.
